There are a great many restaurants in Samoens of a high quality, so you won't find any problem finding places to eat in Samoens village, although might need to be a little more careful when eating on the slopes of the Grand Massif in Flaine for example.

Pizzeria Louisiane Tel: 04 50 34 42 83

A little tricky to find, but worth it once you're there!! Excellent pizzas, enormous salads, decent wine and good prices!! Music sometimes at weekends during the ski season.

We'll check the directions next time we're out there, but if you stand in the covered market / bandstand in the square, face away from the main high street and shops, you'll see a bar (Bar Le Savoie) on the corner. Louisiane is about 100m down the narrow road / alleyway that runs down the right side of the bar as you look at it.

Essentially a pizzeria, although does offer Savoyard specialities as well. Don't let the unimposing setting in a small 70s shopping mall put you off - it's very friendly, VERY good pizzas, and centrally located, just off the road leading from the main roundabout in Samoens up to the start of the pedestrian area. Go down the side of the 'Presse' shop to get to it.

A pleasant bar on the corner of the main square, adjacent to the 'grenier'. Also does good value meals ("steak frites" etc).

La Clarine Tel: 04 50 34 40 11

Nice cosy restaurant specialising in Savoyard dishes, as well as tabletop 'barbeques'. Good food, friendly service, situated above ski shop Planete Glisse, down a little alley on your left (alongside the Presse) as you enter the Samoens one-way system.

Restaurant Tuet (or was that Tuer?!)

Dreadful food, served in small portions, by people who are doing you a favour! On high street, turn right to avoid even passing it.

Le Mode a l'envers Tel: 04 50 34 19 36

Situated on Place Criou, which you get to by going to the main square, and continuing out of Samoens away from the high street shops. Good food, if sometimes of a somewhat unusual nature - just check the menu, and if it takes your fancy that day, go for it. Set menu of around €30 for 3-courses.

Flaine Restaurants

We almost don't want to tell you about this one, as we'd quite like to continue to enjoy our spot on the wonderful sunny terrace, together with the great food!! A range of dishes on offer - standard items like pasta, steaks etc, as well as a couple of daily 'Plats du jour', which are invariably excellent. Just above the main lifts in Flaine - on the piste map, look for the Green run called Epicéa, and it's the knife and fork shown underneath the word Epicéa. Come down red run Faust to get to it, then cut off to your right near to the bottom. If you want to get one of the best spots on the terrace, essential to book!!
